Iceland, your rounds now count

About a month ago Iceland got its very first layout with a difficulty level measured in Upsi. Here's why that's a bigger moment than it sounds, and what it unlocks for every player on the island.

Congratulations, Iceland. The layout at Klambratún in Reykjavík is now the first in the country with a difficulty level measured in Upsi, and that quietly changes the game for everyone who plays there.

It's a fitting one to go first: 14 holes at par 42, and already a full five stars from players for both the course and its facilities. A huge thank you to the local community that made it happen. It takes rounds, players, and a course worth measuring to reach this point, and Reykjavík just did.

With Klambratún on the map, difficulty-measured layouts now reach 28 countries, from Finland and Sweden to the US, Australia, Thailand and Qatar. Iceland is the newest name on that list, and it won't be the last.

So what actually changed?

Until now, a round in Iceland was a round: a great walk, a good scorecard, maybe a personal best. From today, a round at Klambratún can be more than that. Because the layout now has a measured difficulty level, the rounds you play there can become rated rounds, the building blocks of your Upsi Rating.

From rounds to a rating

It's simpler than it sounds, and it happens on its own while you play:

• Play as you always do. Score a normal singles round with at least one other player on a difficulty-measured layout, and as long as it looks like a genuine round, it counts as a rated round. No settings, no extra steps.

• Collect 10 rated rounds. Once you've banked 10 across any difficulty-measured layouts (they don't all have to be this one, since measured courses anywhere in the world count), your official Upsi Rating forms.

• Watch it stay current. Your rating is calculated from your most recent rated rounds and updates once a day, so it always reflects the player you are right now.

The clever part is what makes it fair: your rating is built on the measured difficulty of each layout, not just raw scores. That means it's genuinely comparable, both between players who've never met and across courses you've never played. A skill score that travels with you.

What your rating unlocks

Once your rating forms, the rest of Upsi opens up:

• Friend Ranking. See exactly where you stand among your friends, wherever and whoever you play with. The banter is part of the game. (Upsi Black.)

• Handicap. The world's first disc golf handicap system, powered entirely by your rating and course difficulty, so a mixed-skill group can play a genuinely even match. Free for everyone.

• Round-by-round context. Every rated round gets a star score (1 to 5), so you can see not just your number, but how each game stacks up against your own level and the wider Upsi community.
